We all like new features and Office 2019 has some really cool new options for you to get to grips with. These are also available in O365.
Scalable Vector Graphics
Or icons to you and me!! There are a whole range of icons that can be added to Word, Excel and PowerPoint to add interest. They can be modified like any other shape to change colour, size etc.
To access them choose icons from the insert tab.
Available in PowerPoint this option provides the ability to make smooth animations, transitions, and object movements across your slides. To use it effectively you’ll need to have two slides with at least one object in common. The easiest way to do this is to duplicate the slide and then move the object on the second slide to a different place or copy and paste the object from one slide and add it to the next. Then, apply the Morph transition to the second slide to see what Morph can do to automatically animate and move your object.
Morphing can be found on the Transitions tab, Morph option
Another new PowerPoint option is Zoom. There are 3 types of zoom – Summary, Slide and Section. Whichever option you need it is accessed from the Insert tab under the Zoom option.
A Summary Zoom is like a landing page where you can see the pieces of your presentation all at once. When you’re presenting, you can use the Zoom to go from one place in your presentation to another in any order you like. You can get creative, skip ahead, or revisit pieces of your slide show without interrupting the flow of your presentation.
A Slide Zoom can help you make your presentation more dynamic, allowing you to navigate freely between slides in any order you choose without interrupting the flow of your presentation. They’re a good option for shorter presentations without lots of sections, but you can use Slide Zooms for lots of different presentation scenarios.
Slide Zooms help you drill down into multiple pieces of information while feeling as though you’re staying on the same canvas.
A Section Zoom is a link to a section already in your presentation. You can use them to go back to sections you want to really emphasize, or to highlight how certain pieces of your presentation connect.
New Excel Functions
There are 5 new functions in Excel 2019. There are TEXTJOIN, CONCAT, IFS, MAXIFS, MINIFS. TEXTJOIN and CONCAT are similar to CONCATENATE and allow for text to be put together. IFS is a simpler way to do nested Ifs. MAXIFS and MINIFS allow you to find the highest or lowest values based on multiple criteria.
Another new feature which is available in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio. Inking allows inking to be converted to shapes, you can highlight text or write complex mathematical problems by either using your finger or a pen on the screen or the using a mouse if the screen is not touch sensitive.
It is accessed from the Start Inking option on the Review tab.
Easily Link Tasks in Project
Instead of having to remember the ID of the task in the predecessors or successors columns you can now also see the task name which is much more user friendly.
Task Progress at a Glance in Project
The timeline bars can be labelled with task names and dates to quickly communicate project plans and work in progress.
New Visio Templates
The Organization Chart, Brainstorming, and SDL templates have new starter diagrams to get you up and running quickly.
Access Chart Types
There are 11 brand new chart types in Access.
Translate words, phrases, and other text selections to another language with Microsoft Translator in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
It is easy to not notice the new features that are rolled out with a new version of the software but some of these can make a huge difference to our productivity. Office 365 updates regularly so keep an eye out for anything that looks unfamiliar.
